Spirit in Business
by Aimèe Lyndon-Adams and Karen Halseth
Resistance, Surrender And Gratitude
Most of us pride ourselves on our self-sufficiency. We like to be responsible for taking care of ourselves and pulling our own weight in the world. Building a business and offering exceptional service/experiences to our clients is at the forefront of our minds and actions. This is why it can be so challenging when we find ourselves in a situation in which we have to rely on someone else.
This can happen as the result of an illness, an injury, or even in the case of a positive change such as a highly successful launch that grows your business to new heights. It could be the arrival of a long awaited love relationship or new child that requires a life reorganization to make time for what is now joyfully present.
At times like these, it is essential that we let go of our feeling that we should be able to do it all by ourselves and instead, accept the help of others. I have said it before and will remind you again, “This is not a going it alone lifetime.”
The first step is accepting the situation fully as it is. Too often we make things worse either by trying to do more than we should or by lapsing into feelings of uselessness.
It is easy to fall into the trap of focusing on what you can’t do or the learning curve that can be overwhelming while adjusting to the new changes. But in doing so, we may miss a valuable opportunity to practice acceptance and humility. The ego resists what is. But when we move into acceptance, we move into the deeper realm of the soul. In needing others and allowing them to help us, we experience the full realization that we are not on our own in the world. While this may bring up feelings of vulnerability, a deep feeling of gratitude may also emerge as we open to the experience of being helped.
It takes wisdom and strength to surrender to our own helplessness and to accept that we, just like every other human being, have limitations. While the initial reaction is to resist surrendering, the gifts of surrender
are numerous. We discover humility, gratitude, and a deepening understanding of the human experience that enables us to be that much more compassionate and surrendered in the world. Deep surrender to our lives
is a profound space of acceptance. We stop putting our filter of what we want onto life, and we fully accept what is.
When you are in resistance, you get tired, and so, you need rest. And so, you go from resistance to rest, to resistance to rest. There is another choice available to you: What about rest to eagerness, rest to passion, rest to alignment, rest to clarity, rest to brilliance? With this energy, you are living life as you intended; you are vital, happy, full and in alignment.
I have witnessed, month after month, at our live event Developing Alliances: Professional Gatherings for Extraordinary Women, that everyone loves to offer insights, guidance and support. Whether it is a personal question or business related - we all love to help others.
Will you make a commitment to grow yourself by serving others? Will you make a commitment to ask for help? Now is the time to end the journey of going it alone and soar with the love, caring and assistance of others.
