Creative Thinking for Transformation
You have the potential to be creative and to use
that power in a positive influential way in your life. Creativity is one of the 6 mental faculties that are everyone’s inherent nature. However, like a muscle, it needs to be exercised and developed. I am talking about Creative Thinking, more than being artistic. Everyone can practice creative thinking.
I discovered the power of Creative Thinking when I was in graduate art school. I found that if I woke up and balanced my checkbook, or checked messages, or did the busy work to get it out of the way, it took me much longer to get into the creative process. But if I woke up and nurtured my right brain functioning (we are in the right brain thinking just before we awaken), not only was I more creative, I found that I was more creative throughout the day in daily tasks and problem solving.
So I began the process of waking up and doing a coloring meditation. Now this was easy for me as I
am an artist. But as an art therapist, I found that my clients often struggled with their “inner critic” as they approached artistic endeavors. So in I created a simple system for them to have a creative morning practice without the self critic getting in the way. (Creative Way in 5 Minutes a Day).
A daily Creative Thinking practice not only enhances that day and your problem solving in so many arenas, it is one of the calisthenics that enhances your creativity and personal transformation; your whole life becomes more creative. Again, this is not about being an artist, it is about learning a thinking technology that can enhance every arena of your life.

“The half hour between waking and rising has all my life proved propitious to any task which was exercising my invention... It was always when I first opened my eyes that the desired ideas thronged upon me.” ~ Walter Scott
This practice also helps you set the tone and even the intention for your day. It points you in the direction you would like to go, instead of letting the everyday tasks and “have tos” direct you. Without a daily creative thinking practice, the floor may get vacuumed and the dishes washed, but by the end of the day no steps have been taken on your self-enhancement path. There will always be chores to get done, but without a focus in a determined direction (vision), the years will disappear into mundane tasks.
So what if you were to wake up everyday in a creative morning practice? As an experiment, try it for 21 days and see if it changes the way you move through your day and life in a way that you love even more.
