Trance was invented in France - in the early 400’s by the gypsy woman, Madeleine Alltoobright. She said to her darlings: “Look into the fire, my children. Dare to dream and play...Imagine yourself as queen, as prisoner, as an oak, as a black snake, as the bright star that guides us all evermore.”
My wife, Rita, is a lawyer. For her, facts, details and moral questions are the important points of the story. She laughs at me and at my verbal antics, (I enjoy invention, aesthetic lies, and teasing with tall tales). Years ago I showed her trance. She calls it meditation. She’s right; it is. It is also prayer, or concentration on one objective or object.
I use trance in my healing practice. With my client present, I go into a mild trance. I see/sense wondrous information about the client. With my eyes closed, still
in trance, following inner guidance, I gently relay the information to my client. It is challenging, other-worldly and oddly fun.
For me, trance is like falling into a vast underground cavern. I love the sensation of timelessness, of connection to “everythingness”. In trance I lose the sensation of earth and of my earth body. I am relatively unaware of the immediate room and it’s other occupants. If, in trance, I am helping a client, I feel/sense them floating in my imagination. I may vividly see them as a farmer, soldier or sister in another life. Or I might see an awful or transcendent moment in their childhood.
The profound interest in trance, for me, is the distance between what the client is doing and currently living out, and what he/she set up (before birth) as their general life challenges, goals and rewards. Since childhood I have been able to sense this cosmic gap in folks; where they are, and where they (their larger self) wants to be.
Want to be authentic? Want a wondrous experience? Want fulfillment beyond the mind and body? Try trance.
What goes on in trance? Do you have to be exalted?
Can you slip into trance while waiting for your daughter to
get out of school?
“What are you doing, Mummy?” Your child, Rachel, has leaped into the backseat with her friend Sasha.
“Humm...” you say, eyes still closed, stalling, reveling in a trip to the stars. “What is your mom doing?” Sasha asks your daughter.
“She’s in trance.”
“Oh.”
“My mummy says she can see stuff with her eyes closed,” your daughter Rachel explains.
You hear your daughter and her friend in the back seat chattering about their school friends. In trance you love them both. Suddenly a picture, a brief flash, leaps in and out of your imagination.
You saw the three of you, working under the hot sun in a rice paddy. You are mother, aunt and daughter. In that life you are the daughter. Wow, what a jolt. You feel a tremendous love and freedom sweep over you. “Let’s go mom,” Rachel calls, from the here and now in the backseat “Yeah,” Sasha politely adds, “We want to play.”
Hum. You collect yourself, start the engine, and glance about for traffic.
How do you achieve mild trance? (By the way, when you read a book, watch a child’s face, or stare at the cat, you are, each time, in a mild trance.)
Do The Trance Dance
Sit quietly, feet on ground, spine straight, eyes closed. Concentrate on sending healing energy to another. Send it as a beam of golden light, a swarm of beautiful butterflies, etc.
Turn your attention to yourself.
State a challenge or problem you have.
Ask your guides to send you the wondrous solution. Let Go of the challenge and possible solution. Meditate in the manner native to you.
Enjoy the sensation of things flying through your imagination.
Note the things in your mind that seem relatively familiar, and the shapes, flashes, dark/light worlds and strange images that are not so familiar.
You are in trance. You are in your imagination. Anything is possible. You are connected to all aspects of creation. You are in trance to learn, to experiment, to be of service, to create new forms of your own ever-expanding consciousness!
