I’d like to talk about the Medicine Wheel program that you lead. I participated this summer in your 9 week Medicine Wheel intensive. One day you took us out to Armstrong Woods and asked us to lie done on our backs and look
up at the trees towering over us in a circle. You told us the trees were The Elders and that they can help us and counsel us. This experience reminded me that I used to do this as a child. It came naturally to me to go out into the woods surrounding my house and talk to the trees. But as I grew up, my grown up logical mind interfered with that understanding.
During the course of the 9-week intensive, in the process of getting in touch with nature, we learned about ourselves. We looked inside ourselves. It seemed to me magical and remarkable to look out at nature and inside oneself at the same time.
Yes, we are able to do that because we ARE nature. We have forgotten that we are nature. We are the only species on the planet that has the ability to forget we are nature, to choose to not behave as though we are nature. So when I take people out into nature, we create a reciprocal relationship to nature. Each person focuses on whatever
it is that she can most easily or comfortably relate to, whether it is a stone, or a tree, or a river, or a mountain, or a cloud. She gives herself permission to open her heart to who she is. Communicating with nature is a very personal experience.
After we grow up, we grow out of our natural childhood ways of relating to nature. We get distracted from relating with nature because of how we have constructed modern life. Going back into nature as adults, we can learn how to speak to it, how to listen to it, how to allow it to come in to guide us energetically and spiritually.
I have found the benefits of connecting with nature in this way to be profound.
It is calming. It can help you to organize yourself internally by getting out of your brain and reconnecting to your breath and your feelings. You connect to more natural frequencies of the sound of water, the sound of wind through trees. This normalizes your vital signs, and helps you to breathe easier. It helps you to feel that you fit somewhere.
I found that when I am connecting with nature is this way, as you guided us through the Medicine Wheel program, my mind calms and my pulse slows, the more agitated energies dissipate, and I am able to hear my inner guidance more clearly. I am also better able to perceive outer guidance that might come from the ancestors. Sometimes, I hear and see things that I didn’t even know I needed to hear and see.
Nature helps to simplify things, and also to help us get grounded again. Grounding is a word that sometimes confuses people. When I use the word “Grounded” I am referring to how our nervous system can function more efficiently. Our nervous system is electrical, the element of fire. That electricity needs to go through our feet into the ground. When we are out in nature, we are more likely to be able to ground that fire into the earth. Then our vital signs are normalized, everything seems quieter, we feel more connected and calmer, and things make more sense.
We do a fine job of forgetting that nature has everything we need to calm down and come back to our hearts. We are so sidetracked by medications, drugs, noise, and technology; we forget that the real healer is nature itself.
What would you recommend that our readers do to get in touch with nature, even if they can’t make a trip out to the wilderness?
To get in touch with nature, just go outside your front door or back door and look at what is growing there.
You wouldn’t have to go very far to find a tree, or the neighbor’s flower garden. Seek out the nature that is right around you.
If our readers want to have help interpreting the messages of their ancestors, or guidance to explore their inner landscape, how can they get in touch with you?
It is best to call or email me. From Oct through December I am offering a special $1/minute readings (on phone or in-person) to talk to your ancestors. I am not talking about speaking to a specific ancestor, like Aunt Jane or Uncle Rubin. I am talking about accessing your deep ancestry and what that might mean for you, to understand the messages of the generations of your ancestors. Your body is your whole world. I interpret a person’s body as an inner landscape. The inhabitants of your planet are your ancestors across 20,000 generations. That is the number that the ancestors have asked me to refer to.
And you are also available to help with medical issues?
I like to help people who are stuck without any western medical options. If it is looking pretty bleak, they can’t be diagnosed, or if there is a diagnosis and there is failure to respond to treatment, I love working with that, and with any kind of medical mysteries.
Thank you, Phyllis, for taking the time to sit down with me today to tell us a little bit about the unique and remarkable work you do.
